Minimum Wage Increase
At the end of the year, the increase of the national basic monthly minimum wage in Albania to 50,000 ALL (from 40,000 ALL) was approved, effective January 1, 2026. This 25% increase is expected to directly impact both employees (who will receive higher net wages) and employers (with slightly higher social contribution costs). Financial planning for the beginning of the year will reflect this significant change for many businesses.
"Fiscal Peace" and Debt Forgiveness
Throughout 2025, an initiative for the forgiveness of past tax liabilities (referred to as "Fiscal Peace") was widely debated. This initiative aims to provide businesses with old tax debts an opportunity to clear their financial past, in exchange for meeting specific conditions. However, experts and international organizations (such as the IMF) warned that such a fiscal amnesty could undermine tax discipline and risk long-term fiscal stability. Consequently, the Government has approached this with caution, balancing taxpayer relief with the preservation of a tax-paying culture.

In 2025, the use of new technologies shifted from a trend to a tangible business reality. Artificial Intelligence, in particular, saw exponential growth in global adoption. Studies show that approximately 78% of companies worldwide are already using forms of AI in their daily operations, while over 90% of businesses are either using it or actively exploring it.
In Albania, companies began experimenting more broadly with tools like virtual assistants, automated financial analysis, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) platforms to increase efficiency. Simultaneously, government and banking electronic platforms improved, making it easier for entrepreneurs to conduct tasks such as online applications and electronic tax filings.
