SECTION G – WHOLESALE AND RETAIL TRADE; REPAIR OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND MOTORCYCLES
This section includes wholesale and retail trade (resale without transformation) of all kinds of goods, and the provision of all services related to the sale of goods. Wholesale and retail trade are the final stages of the distribution of goods. This section also includes the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.
Resale without transformation includes the usual stages of work (or maneuvers) associated with trade, for example, classifying, regrouping, and accumulating goods, mixing goods (for example, sand), bottling (with or without washing the bottles), packaging, breaking up and repacking for distribution into smaller packages, storage (frozen, fresh or not), cleaning, and drying agricultural products, cutting wood fibers, or sheet metal as secondary activities.
Division 45 includes all activities related to the sale and repair of vehicles and motorcycles, while divisions 46 and 47 include all other sales activities. The difference between division 46 (Wholesale trade) and division 47 (Retail trade) is based on the main type of customer. Wholesale trade is the resale (sale without transformation) of new or used goods to retailers, to industrial users, traders, institutional, or professional users, or to other wholesalers, or the intermediation in the purchase and sale of goods or the sale of goods to persons or enterprises.
The main types of enterprises involved are wholesale merchants, e.g., exclusive dealers of the goods they sell, industrial distributors, exporters, importers, sales branches and sales offices (but not retail sales shops) kept by manufacturing or mining units separately from their factories or mines for the purpose of marketing their products and which do not merely take orders for supply direct from the factories or mines.
Also included are intermediaries for the sale of goods and products, agents and collectors, buyers, and cooperative associations involved in the marketing of farm products.
Wholesalers often physically assemble, package, and sort goods in large quantities, break down new goods, repackage them, and redistribute them in smaller quantities, e.g., pharmaceuticals; store, freeze, distribute, and place goods; handle sales promotion for their clients; and design company branding.
Retail sale is the resale (sale without transformation) of new and used goods primarily by shops, department stores, mail order houses, travelling merchants, retailers, consumer cooperatives, auction sales, etc., to customers for consumption or household use. Most retailers derive their name from the commodity they sell, but some act as agents for a principal and sell either the form of a landed property or on a commission basis.
