Labor Relations Covered by the Code

It applies to all employment relationships that occur in the territory of Albania, including individual and collective relationships. It covers relationships related to:

  1. Employment in the public and private sectors.
  2. Temporary and permanent relationships.
  3. Seasonal employment and teleworking (Article 6).

Practical example: A technology company that employs people for remote work (telework) is required to implement the rules of the Code for wages and working hours.

Application for Foreign Workers

Employers who hire foreign nationals are obligated to ensure they have the same rights and protections as Albanian employees, including registration in the social security system (Article 7).

Practical example: A construction company that hires employees from Kosovo must provide them with paid annual leave and medical treatment in case of an accident.

Exclusions from the Scope of Application

Kodi does not apply to certain employment relationships, including:

  • Informal family work without a contract.
  • Professions regulated by specific legislation, such as diplomats and sailors (Article 8).

Practical example: An individual working for a relative in a family business, without a contract and fixed salary, is not protected by the provisions of the Code.
